Golden, Colo.: Hot hitting by the Ranger baseball team helped them sweep two games, 20-6 and 8-1, from Colorado Mines (3-6, 0-2 RMAC. Senior Nick Billinger was especially hot going 7-for-11 with nine RBIs, four doubles and a homerun.
Regis plated five runs in the third inning, two each in the fifth and sixth and four in the seventh and six more in the eighth. In the first game, Regis (7-1, 2-0 RMAC) had six players hit safely at least twice including five hits by junior Steven Brault.
Senior Tony Piazza went 4-for-6 at the plate in the two games with six RBIs and four walks. Junior John Tosches went 5-for-9 in the two games as designated hitter with four RBIs. Billinger, Piazza, Brault and junior Tony Schicktanz each connected on homeruns.
Regis ace senior Aaron Harms improved his record to 2-0 going seven innings allowing four earned runs while striking out four and only walking two in seven innings. Junior Kevin Ross and freshman Jordan Blaylock each threw an inning not allowing a run.
Kriby Schwein was the star of game two throwing his first Regis complete game scattering seven hits in seven innings. He allowed just one run and only walked two to run his record to a perfect 3-0.
Billinger went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Regis again had six players with at least two hits. The Regis 7-8-9 hitters went a combined 6-for-11 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
The same two teams will finish their four-game series with two tomorrow.
