Regis Splits with Emporia State Hornets
Denver, Colo.: With her second homerun in her
second ever collegiate game, Alyssa Beskid brought in three
RBI’s in the first inning of game one against Emporia State,
five overall, to help lead the Rangers to a 10-8 victory on
Saturday. In game two, Regis fell short of Emporia 8-4.
In game one, the Hornets scored three in the top of the first
before Regis answered back in the bottom with Beskid’s
three-run homer. Emporia State scored two more to take a 5-3 lead
in the top of the second before the Rangers posted five more runs
in the bottom of the inning.
Junior Emily Anderson doubled to left field to start off the
inning before being brought in on a single by junior Alisa
Heronema. Freshman Bre Backlund doubled for two RBI’s before
Beskid brought in two more to take an 8-5 lead.
Emporia scored two more in the top of the third before two innings
finished scoreless. The bottom of the sixth brought two more runs
for the Rangers followed by one run in the top of the seventh by
the Hornets. Sophomore Nikki Haberkorn started the game and
recorded the 10-8 win with junior Bianca Holley grabbing the save
after coming into the circle in the top of the fourth.
Game two brought one run in during the top of the first by Emporia
before the Rangers matched it with a solo homerun by senior Mo
McDaniel in the bottom of the second. Emporia State’s Angela
Mahan matched McDaniel’s homerun when she led off the top of
the third inning with a homer. The Hornets scored three more runs
in the top of the inning and one in the top of the fifth. Both
teams added two runs to the board in the sixth with Regis posting
one more in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Natalie Adami
recorded the loss.
On the day, Backlund went 4-for-8 with one double, one triple, and
four RBI’s. Heronema went 4-for-7 with one RBI. Sophomore
Amber Aragon-Autobee tallied four hits on the day in six at bats
and brought in one run while Adami went 3-for-6 with one RBI.
Up next, the Rangers will face Colorado State-Pueblo on Feb. 13th
at the Regis Softball Field. First pitch is set for noon.
