Ranger Softball Splits Day One with Yellow Jackets

SPEARFISH, S.D.:  The Ranger women's softball program split day one of their last RMAC conference series with the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State University.  Regis took the first game 7-0 before succumbing to the Jackets 4-9 in the second game of the doubleheader.

In the 7-0 win, the Rangers started the game with a double by sophomore Breanna Backlund and was driven in by a double from freshman Taylor Wilcox.

The team would score two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to complete the win. 

Backlund and Wilcox each had two hits and one RBI during the game.  Junior Alyssa Beskid went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and four other Rangers had one hit apiece.

Freshman Sydney Gaffin (9-8) earned the win after staying strong for seven innings.  She allowed seven hits and struck out three batters.

The Yellow Jackets came out strong in the second game, taking an early 4-0 lead by the end of the second inning.  They put up five more runs by the seventh inning; bring the score 9-3 and the Rangers up to bat.

Backlund reached on an error and was sent home on a single RBI from senior Cassie Long.  The Rangers were not able to put on any other runs on the board.

Senior Maegan Cooley and Long each had three hits during the game.  Freshman Rachel Illias went 2-for-4 with one RBI and junior Shannon Massine and freshman Molly Tyler each had one hit.

Tyler (3-6) received the loss after slinging 3.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out two.  Gaffin took over for 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out one.
