Denver, Colo.: Jordan Miller
recorded a hat trick as the Rangers outshot UCCS 38 to 14 to grab a
commanding 6-1 victory over the Mountain Lions on Sunday at home.
Marissa
Davis, Miller, and Meghan Stuart each
had a goal in the game with Davis having two and Stuart recording
one.
Within the first ten minutes of play Regis (9-4-0, 6-2-0) took a
quick 2-0 lead as Davis and Miller scored their sixth and ninth
goals of the season. Both players dribbled in for their shots
sending them just over the fingertips of UCCS goalie Kelly
Schroeder. The Rangers controlled much of the tempo during the
first half as they outshot the Mountain Lions 16-7.
Regis went up by three with about 22 minutes remaining when CC
Rinehart and Davis had a double assist to Miller for her tenth goal
this year. UCCS (6-5-0, 3-4-0) cut the deficit to just two as
Ashley Hooper scored with just over 15 minutes remaining. She was
assisted by Julia Saenz on the play.
The second half read the same story as Regis took 22 shots to
UCCS's seven.
The Rangers took a commanding 6-1 lead during the second period
as they tacked three more goals onto the board. Davis recorded the
first goal as Stuart crossed the ball into her just in front of the
net for the tap in.
Miller struck again for Regis with just under 18 minutes
remaining when she took a penalty kick and sent it into the lower
left hand corner of the net. A short two minutes later, Stuart
scored for her third time this season when she dribbled in for the
shot.
Overall, the Rangers forced 15 Mountain Lion saves while the
Regis defense worked hard to force goalies Ellen Augsburger
and Katie King
to make just four, Augsburger with one and King with three.
Up next, Regis will face Metro State on Wed. at the Regis Match
Pitch. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
