Denver, Colo.: Senior Nathan Kafer's
golden goal in the 104th minute of the match propelled the Rangers
past cross-town rival and 11th-ranked Metro State 2-1. Kafer
took a pass from sophomore Lio DelPiccolo who
had beat his man on the left side and scored his team-leading
eighth goal of the season.
Regis, now 9-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the RMAC, controlled much
of the game outshooting Metro State 31-12. The Rangers took
the early lead when with about seven minutes remaining in the first
half senior Keegan Bast took a
free kick from near midfield and a Metro State player got a head on
the ball and struck the ball into his own net.
Metro State (8-3-2, 5-2-2) got an equalizing goal in the 60th
minute of the match when Scott Crawford got a cross from Steven
Emory and he was able to get it past reigning RMAC Defensive Player
of the Week Scott
Brown.
The two teams have played two epic matches with the first also
going to double overtime and ending in a 2-2 tie. In fact,
the last four matches between the two schools have been ties.
Freshman Doug Passalaqua
came off the bench to notch his eighth victory of the year after he
relieved starter Scott Brown after he
was injured on an apparent goal that was called off due to a Metro
State foul. Passalaqua played the final 26 minutes, while
Brown played the first 74 minutes.
Regis will only have one day to reflect on the win as they host
CSU-Pueblo on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
