Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger men's soccer
team today got out to a 2-0 lead but after a red card sent freshman
Nduoma
Chilaka to the bench, Fort Lewis was able to tie the game and
send it into overtime, where neither team could score.
Senior Nathan
Kafer put Regis (10-1-3, 5-1-3 RMAC) on the board first when
the Fort Lewis (9-5-1, 8-2-1 RMAC) defense couldn't clear the ball
and Kafer got it at his cleats and was one on one with the goal
keeper and he was able to put the ball past him for his
team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Freshman Ben Fredrickson
supplied the next goal for Regis. The Rangers got outshot
13-2 in the second half but Fredrickson was able to get the ball
from the Fort Lewis defenders and the Skyhawk goalkeeper came out
but was to late for the speedy forward, Fredrickson did some good
dribbling and got the shot he wanted and found the open net to his
liking.
Fort Lewis battled back and scored 51 seconds later with just
15:04 remaining in the second half. Thomas Hoang got a cross
from Abdel Becerra after the Rangers were unsuccessful at slowing
down the Fort Lewis offense at midfield resulting in the goal.
Chilaka left the game with 6:04 remaining and with just 2:57
remaining in the game Fort Lewis got the equalizing goal by Byron
Cephers.
Neither team could find the goal in either overtime but both
teams were able to get some good looks at the goal.
Freshman net minder Doug Passalaqua had a season-high 11 saves
for Regis.
The Rangers will take on winless Adams State on Friday afternoon
at Regis.
