Rangers Fall by Two, 49-47, in Season Opener to Rockhurst

Wichita, Kan.: The Regis women's basketball team traveled to Wichita, Kan. where they opened the 2010-11 season on Friday against Rockhurst University in the Catholic School Tournament. They fell to the Hawks 49-47 in the game as Salina Kuiper led the Rangers with ten points.

Regis took an early lead as they went on a 6-0 run over the first one and a half minutes of play. The lead turned with 12 and a half minutes remaining in the first half as Rockhurst gained a one point lead (12-11). The lead was exchanged for the remaineder of the half before Regis walked away at the break with a six point lead (29-23).

Five and a half minutes into the second period, the score became tied at 31 and was tied two more times before the Hawks took a lead at the 10:38 mark that remained for the game. During the period, the Rangers came within one of the Hawks three times after Rockhurst gained the lead, but Regis was unable to jump ahead resulting in a 49-47 Hawk victory.

Behind Kuiper in scoring was Chelsea Porter with nine points and Erin O'Toole with eight. Porter also pulled down six boards for the Rangers.

Up next, Regis will face College of Saint Mary on Saturday at Newman. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. central time.
