Denver, Colo.: To come off of a two game slide,
the Rangers defeated the Mesa State Mavericks at home 2-0 on
Sunday. Rachel McMahon scored the Rangers lone goal as the other
was tallied by the Mavericks as they scored an own goal to put the
Rangers up by two.
Regis (4-3-0, 1-1-0 RMAC) controlled the tempo of the first half
as they tallied 14 shots to the Mavericks zero and kept possession
of the ball for much of the period. A couple of good services
looked to score for Regis but didn't until one reached the
back of the Mavericks net with just over one minute remaining.
Lauren Dorsey-Spitz's shot was blocked and deflected into the
cleats of McMahon for the goal. The Rangers had three shots on goal
forcing two Mesa State saves by Alicia Kahler.
The second half brought about another goal for the Rangers as
the Mavericks scored their own goal near the half way point of the
second period giving Regis a 2-0 lead. With neither team able to
score again, Regis snagged the 2-0 victory over Mesa State (2-3-1,
0-2-0 RMAC).
In the match, Regis outshot the Mavericks 26 to 4 putting seven
shots on goal.
Up next, the Rangers will face Metro State on Wed., Sept.
22nd at Metro. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
