Denver, Colo.: After having a 22-game slide
against Metro State, Regis claimed a 3-2 victory over the
third-ranked Roadrunners on Wednesday at Metro to break the cycle.
Jordan
Miller, Rachel McMahon,
and Lauren
Dorsey-Spitz each scored one goal in the match.
#3 Metro State (5-1-1, 1-1-1 RMAC) took the first lead of the
game about 30 minutes in when Michael' Ann Karas was assisted by
Ashley Nemmers from just outside the 18 yard box. This lead took
Mertro State through the remainder of the first half.
Regis (5-3-0, 2-1-0 RMAC) cut this deficit near the 60 minute
mark when Miller scored her fifth goal of the season. She was
assisted by Erin Kettmann and
Marissa
Davis on the play. Metro took a second lead just over five
minutes later as Aubrey Fondy assisted Madison McQuilliams for the
Roadrunners' second goal of the game.
Just ten minutes before the closing of the game Dorsey-Spitz
tied the score at two as the ball found her from a deflection off
of a corner kick from Miller. Neither team was able to score again
during regulation play sending the game into overtime.
Neither team could find the net in the first overtime, so a
second and final overtime would be needed. McMahon was able
to find an open space after a great feed from fellow freshman CC Rinehart and
she calmly put the ball past the keeper and into the back of the
net. The Ranger team and crowd went nuts as the preverbial
monkey was lifted.
Up next, Regis will face CSU-Pueblo on Friday in Pueblo, Colo..
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
