Denver, Colo.: Outplaying and outshooting the
Orediggers wasn't enough for No. 18 Regis as they fell 2-1 to
Colorado School of Mines, No. 3, on Friday at home. The Rangers
fall to 5-1-1 on the season, 1-1-1 RMAC.
Although both teams tallied a goal in the first half, the
Rangers outshot the Orediggers' 15 to seven. Both teams put four
shots on goal with Regis taking five corner kicks to CSM's one.
Mines' (7-0, 4-0 RMAC) goal came a short six minutes into the
half as Tesho Akindele dribbled in and around the Regis defense for
the goal. Regis answered back just after the 30 minute mark as Kyle Emge tapped
the ball out to Ben Fredrickson
from just in front of the goal. Fredrickson sent it past CSM
goalkeeper Manville Strand.
Just as it looked like the teams were going to break with a 1-1
tie, Mines took a one goal lead as they scored with 25 seconds
remaining in the half. Jacob Juett scored the goal as he was
assisted by Chike Sullivan on the play.
The second half brought about 17 shots for Regis, five on goal,
that couldn't sneak by Strand. Mines put up just three shots, one
on goal. With the Rangers unable to score, Mines walked away with
the 2-1 victory.
Up next, Regis will face CSU-Pueblo on Friday in Pueblo. Kickoff
is set for 7:00 p.m.
