Box Score Denver, Colo.: Kari Ameling and Salina Kuiper totaled for 35 points on Friday to help lead Regis to a 76-68 victory over UCCS at home. Ameling and Kuiper scored 18 and 17 points respectively while Kaitie Vader chimed in with ten points.
During the first five and a half minutes of play, the game had been tied five times with both teams gaining the lead at one point. While the Rangers (7-7, 6-4 RMAC) were outshot in the period, 13-29 (44.8) to 11-28 (39.3), they took advantage of opportunities at the charity stripe sinking 9-of-11 free throws. Going into the break, Regis was down by one, 34-33.
The Rangers grabbed the first lead of the second half before going on an 8-0 run over a two minute span taking the game into the 14th minute. From this point on the Rangers never trailed and were able to extend their lead to 11 twice before the final buzzer. Regis walked away with a 76-68 victory over the Mountain Lions (6-8, 5-5 RMAC).
Overall, Regis shot 46.2 from the floor and 88.5 from the free throw line. As Kuiper and Vader were two of the Rangers' top scorers for the night, they also led the team in boards as they each grabbed five. Chelsea Porter led the team with eight rebounds.
Up next, the Rangers will face Colorado State University at Pueblo on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Regis Fieldhouse.
