Alamosa, Colo.: Adams State used a big run late in the first half to defeat Regis 86-53 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball action.
Regis (5-11, 2-10 RMAC) never led in the game but had one tie in the first half and trailed by just one, 24-23, with 6:45 remaining in the first half on a jumper by junior Chris Johansen. Adams State (12-3, 9-3 RMAC) then went on a run of epic proportions.
The Grizzlies closed out the half on an 18-0 run to take a 42-23 lead at the break. Regis went nearly eight minutes without scoring a point at the same time ASC scored 22 points. The run stretched to 47-5 and put Adams State ahead 71-28 with 11:22 remaining in the game.
The Rangers got 30 points off their bench compared to 24 for Adams State. Adams State outscored the Rangers 56-24 in the paint.
Junior Blake Bales came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while freshman Jon Conley chipped in with 10 points, also off the bench. Johansen and senior Stevie Ledesma each contributed nine points with Johansen grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.
The Rangers committed 20 turnovers which was a season-high for the Rangers who will play at Fort Lewis in Durango, Colo. on Saturday evening.
