Rangers Drop Fifth Straight with 71-59 Loss to Western State

Denver, Colo.: On Saturday at the Regis Fieldhouse, a 23-1 Mountaineer run led to a fifth consecutive loss for the Rangers and a 71-59 victory for Western State. Three Rangers led the team in scoring headed by Salina Kuiper with 13 points. Meagan Nickell and Kaitie Vader followed with 12 and eight points respectively. Vader also pulled down eight rebounds on the night. 

Just eight minutes into the first half, the score had been tied four times with Western State (7-12, 5-10 RMAC) holding much of the lead. With seven minutes remaining in the half this changed as Regis (7-12, 6-9 RMAC) went on an 11-2 run to sit up by 12, 39-27, with just two and a half minutes left to play in the first period. At the break, the Rangers were up by seven, 39-32. 

The second half read a different story as WSC went on a run of their own. With 19:04 on the clock, the Mountaineers were down by eight, 41-33. From this point, Western State went on a 23-1 run over a ten and a half minute span to sit up by 14, 56-42, with 8:31 remaining. The final buzzer sounded in favor of WSC, 71-59. 

Up next, Regis will face Colorado Mines in Golden on Fri., Feb. 4th. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
