Box Score Denver, Colo.: The Rangers fought a battle to the end as they hosted Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. A Tory Langas paint shot rolled perfect for Mines as it fell through the net as the buzzer sounded to lift the Orediggers one point above Regis, 58-57, for the victory.
The game took off to a rough start for both teams as they each shot just 28.1 percent from the field in the first half (9-of-32). The Rangers however, made three baskets from downtown in the period while Mines' did not sink any. Regis walked away at the half up by one (25-24).
The lead shifted at the open of the second period before the Rangers regained it and were able to hold onto it until 12:25 remained. This tie was the fourth of the game which turned into an Oredigger lead. The game would be tied four more times to bring the score to 55-55 with just 1:05 on the clock.
With 33 seconds remaining, a free throw shot by Kait Soehner put Mines up by one before Salina Kuiper set in a layup to give Regis the one point advantage. Soehner missed a three-pointer which rolled out of bounds after the shot. Oredigger posession was given at the corner of the baseline where Soehner imbounded the ball to Langas just in front of the free throw line. With a jump and a shot the buzzer sounded and the ball rolled in in favor of Mines (58-57).
Lauren Luebbe and Kari Ameling led the Rangers with 11 points each. Ameling recorded eight boards while Luebbe had six. Kaitie Vader had a solid night as she totaled nine points and eight boards for Regis followed by Chelsea Porter with seven points and nine rebounds.
Up next, Regis will host UCCS on Fri., Jan. 14th. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
