The Rangers attacked the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa today in an RMAC Conference match. Four separate women scored to help push the Rangers to a big victory.
"The response out of Wednesday's disappointing loss was critical," stated Head Coach JB Belzer. "I told the girls to relax, enjoy, and play freely."
"We had a few good goals early and produced some wonderful attacking soccer," continued Belzer. "We managed to produce some results going 4-0."
The women wore pink warm up t-shirts, headbands, and shoelaces to honor the fight against breast cancer. In support of the cause, the Rangers came out strong and effective. In the second minute, forward Jordan Miller passed to forward Meghan Stuart from the top of the 18 yard box. From the pass on the ground, Stuart turned and sent the ball to the back of the net form the top of the six yard box.
The Rangers only gained momentum after the first goal, and scored again in the 10th minute. There was a high header by defender Taylor White that the Maverick keeper misplayed. The ball bounced out for another opportunity. Miller took the shot and scored bringing the Rangers up 2-0.
The pace stayed consistent in the first half, as the Rangers scored again in the 30th minute. Forward CC Rinehart touched to midfielder Marissa Davis from the right of the six yard box. The ball stopped in front of the goal and in the midst of the hustle, Davis tapped it past the goalie.
In the 80th minute, the women brought the score to 4-0. Forward Kari Taylor crossed in towards the goal. The ball was redirected out towards midfielder Heidi Chandler who sent it towards the goal.
"Pregame, we were talking in the locker room; it's a different day out there with our pink shirts and hair ribbons," commented Chandler. "Coach had us write down exactly what we were going to do on the board, and we approached the game differently."
"It worked for us," she continued. "We came out with energy and got it done."
Goalkeeper Nicole Eddings had five saves in her 90 minutes. The women tallied 13 shots , five of which were on goal.
"Many people contributed today, getting us back on track mentally, Belzer finished. "I'm very proud and pleased with the way we handled the adversity coming out of Wednesday."
The Rangers will play Sunday, October 16th at Colorado State University Pueblo at 2:30 PM.
