The Ranger women scored a goal in the final minutes of the game to secure a 1-0 win over Colorado Christian University in today's RMAC competition. The game went scoreless until the Rangers seized their final opportunity to score in the 90th minute of the game.
At the 89:12 mark, Ranger forward Meghan Stuart dribbled towards the Cougar goal past defenders on the left side of the field. She then crossed the ball into the front of the goal. Forward CC Rinehart came tearing in through defenders at the last minute to finish off the play with a goal.
"We played well as a team today and showed a lot of heart. The defenders, midfielders, and forwards all played well together; Meghan had a gorgeous assist," stated Rinehart. She continued, "We never stopped and that's what I love about this team."
Head coach JB Belzer commented, "We kept pressing and going and trying to get in line and we finally got the magic cross and great run timed and redirected the ball home for a winner with Meghan flashing it across and CC making the timed run and finishing it home."
The Rangers had eight shots on goal out of 18 shots. Goalkeeper Ellen Augsberger will get the shutout with three saves on the day.
Belzer stated, "It took all of 90 minutes today to play against a very good Cougar team. I'm very proud of my kids; I thought our fitness played off late." He continued, "It's difficult to win on the road in the RMAC and we took a giant leap forward winning late and winning on the road so I'm very pleased. Now we'll take a few days off to prepare with an open Friday and a match on Sunday at UCCS and again we have to go on the road and prove ourselves in this difficult conference."
The Rangers will play at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday, October 9th. The RMAC Conference match will take place in Colorado Springs at 2:30 PM.
