The Ranger women's soccer team defeated RMAC Conference competition, the #8 Fort Lewis Skyhawks 1-0 today for 'Senior Day.' Five seniors were honored prior to the last home regular season match for their dedication to the Ranger program including forward Jordan Miller, midfielder Heidi Chandler, midfielder Shawnee Wood, forward Kari Taylor, and student assistant coach Rosie Campbell.
On the day, the Rangers had seven shots, one of which was on goal. Junior goalkeeper Nicole Eddings played the full 90:00 between the posts, tallying four saves throughout the match.
"Fort Lewis came out and played hard as they always do," commented Eddings. "We respect them for it."
"Everyone came out and played together as a team," she continued. "In the end, both teams had to come out and try to play their best game possible."
The lone goal came in the 72nd minute of play. Junior defender Taylor White sent the ball into the Skyhawk's 18 yard box. Jordan Miller outran her defender and sent her first touch of the pass from White into the goal bringing the Rangers up 1-0.
"I made eye contact with Taylor and she sent the perfect ball that I just got on the end of," stated Miller. "I didn't know if it was going to make it, if the defender would get there, or if it missed and I just felt relief once it went in."
"We did what we were supposed to," she finished. "We overcame all the things we had to in that game."
Both defensive sides played extraordinarily well throughout the rest of the match. Defenders Alison Cahill, Taylor White, and Erin Kettman kept the Skyhawks at bay to secure the shutout.
The women finish regular season with a 14-4-0 overall record and a 11-3-0 RMAC Conference record.
With the win, the Rangers will host the RMAC Conference tournament taking place on November 2nd, 4th, and 6th. The women will play in the RMAC semifinal on November 4th in Denver, Colo. at the Regis Match Pitch.
