Box Score Durango, Colo.: Regis and Metro State had met twice in the year and each won on the others field but this time it was a neutral site and unfortunately the 13th-ranked Rangers fell to #21 Metro State 1-0 in the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament.
Metro State (14-5-1) took the first seven shots of the game and also had five corner kicks in the first 22 minutes of the game. Regis (13-4-1) took their first shot as freshman Martin Maybin hit a shot wide at in the 26th minute.
The Ranger offense then got on track as over a three-minute period late in the first half they took six shots, two of which were saved by Metro State's Shailer Thomas, two of his 10 saves. Co-freshman of the year Logan Miller had a shot late in the half that was also stopped by Thomas.
The two offenses traded shots and then in the 61st minute Brendan Hughes scored his fourth goal of the season on a header from Marc Herschberger.
Regis had plenty of opportunities late in the game and had two consecutive corner kicks and a shot attempt by freshman Michael Sheehan that sailed high.
The Rangers had one late attempt when junior Stephen Reed attempted a shot, but was once again saved by Thomas in the 87th minute.
Senior Ben Sabados had a great game in goal allowing just the one goal and making nine saves. Senior Ben Buhler had five shots, while senior Kyle Emge and sophomore Ben Fredrickson tallied three each.
Metro State moves on to face Fort Lewis in the RMAC Championship game Sunday afternoon.
Regis will now have to wait till Monday night for their fate on whether or not they are one of two teams from the RMAC to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
