Las Vegas, Nev.: The Ranger softball team began their season today in Las Vegas, Nev. when they took on Mary and Northwest Nazarene at the MSU-Billings Desert Stinger Tournament. Regis fell in their first game, 4-0, to Mary before a seventh inning homer by Natalie Adami lifted the Rangers above Northwest Nazarene, 5-4, to snag a second game victory. 

In the first game, the Rangers tallied five hits to Mary's six, but were unable to bring any of them across the plate. Breanna Backlund went 2-for-3 three in the game with one stolen base while Natalie Adami went 1-for-3 with a double. Bianca Holley was in the circle for the game and recorded the loss. 

Game two read differently for Regis as the Rangers were able to connect their hits bringing in five runs. Northwest Nazarene took a one run lead in the first inning before Regis went up by one in the top of the third. Emily Anderson had a leadoff homerun to start the inning before Backlund brought in Shannon Massine to put Regis up by one. 

In the bottom of the inning Northwest Nazarene matched Regis' runs by scoring two more to take a one run lead, 3-2. They increased this lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. 

The top of the sixth brought about two more runs for the Rangers which tied the score at four. Adami led off the top of the seventh for Regis as she sent one over the left center wall to put Regis up by one, 5-4. With Northwest Nazarene unable to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning, the Rangers took the victory. Haberkorn recorded the win for Regis. 

Up next, Regis will face Minot St. and St. Edward's on Saturday in Las Vegas.
