Box Score Denver, Colo.: After splitting last week in Nebraska against Nebraska-Kearney (L, 80-56) and Chadron State (W, 80-75 in OT), Regis hosted New Mexico Highlands on Friday and fell by three (59-56). Three Rangers tallied double digit points for Regis with Meagan Nickell leading the way with 15 points.
Less than four minutes into the game the score had been tied three times. Over a minute and a half span, Regis went on a 7-0 run to take a seven point lead over Highlands, 13-6. The Rangers were able to increase their lead to nine, 21-12, with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. The teams broke with Regis up by six, 29-23.
At the seven minute mark of the second half, the score was tied for the fifth time at 47. Regis jumped up by two before the score again became tied at 49 with six minutes remaining. The trend repeated once more before Highlands jumped up by three on a long shot from Whitley Coca. While the Cowgirls' lead changed, they stayed ahead until the buzzer grabbing the 59-56 victory.
Behind Nickell in scoring for Regis was Lauren Luebbe and Salina Kuiper with ten points each. Luebbe pulled down five boards along with Kaitie Vader and Kari Ameling. Leading Regis in rebounds was Meghan Hollenga who also snagged six steals.
Up next, Regis will face Western New Mexico on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
