Extra Innings Prove no Different for Rangers

Denver, Colo.: Just as it looked like Regis was going to break their splits curse, a sixth inning 5-1 lead in game two turned into a seventh inning 5-5 tie and a 7-6 UCCS victory in the eighth. Regis snagged the game one victory 3-2 before succumbing to the Mountain Lions in game two.

Alisa Heronema led off the bottom of the first in game one with a single to later be scored by Natalie Adami and put Regis up by one. UCCS tied the score in the top of the third when they tallied three hits and crossed one over the plate.

The Rangers went ahead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth when Cassie Long hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield and brought in Adami on the play.

With a one-run double in the top of the seventh, UCCS tied the score at two. Tahnea Leeling doubled to left center to bring in Becca Smith for the tying run. After a scoreless seventh inning, the game went into extra innings.

The bottom of the ninth brought a run and victory for Regis as Heronema had a leadoff double and advanced two bases on a Mountain Lion error. Recording the win is Bianca Holley who jumps to 7-3.

The Rangers got a two run lead early in game two when they scored two runs in the bottom of the first and tallied three hits. Three scoreless innings followed before Regis tacked three more runs to the board in the fifth on three more Ranger hits.

In the top of the sixth UCCS posted one run to the board on a Ranger error to come within four of Regis, 5-1. Regis went scoreless in the bottom of the inning taking the game into the seventh where the Mountain Lions tacked four more runs to the board to tie the score at five. All of the runs were unearned with Regis committing two errors. A scoreless bottom half inning forced another extra inning game.

A two-run homer by Christina Blanton in the top of the eighth put UCCS up by two, 7-5, going into the bottom of the inning. While Regis was able to add one more run in the bottom of the inning they fell 7-6 in the game. Nikki Haberkorn recorded the loss in the circle and falls to 3-5 overall.

Heronema ignited Regis' offense as she went 6-for-7 on the day with two walks.

Up next, Regis will complete their series with UCCS as they host the Mountain Lions on Sunday.

First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
