Rangers Retaliate After Loss to Run-Rule Colorado School of Mines for Split

Denver, Colo.: On Sunday, coming back off of a game one loss, 3-1, the Rangers retaliated with a six inning mercy rule, 9-1, in game two to split on the day with Colorado Mines and take one of four on the weekend. The Rangers now sit at 15-14 overall, 9-9 in RMAC play.

Game one consisted of just seven hits between the two teams with Regis recording three of them. Unfortunately for the Rangers, they were unable to rally for more runs than the Orediggers in the game eventually succumbing by two, 3-1.

In the top of the fifth, Mines put themselves on the board with one run as two walks led to an Oredigger run. Two doubles in the sixth added two more runs to the board for CSM to put them up by three, 3-0, going into the bottom of the inning.

Sarah Baumberger placed Regis on the board in the sixth as she singled through the left side to score Alisa Heronema, 3-1, and send the game into the seventh. Three up three down for Mines in the top of the inning brought the Rangers to the plate down by two. Unable to score, Regis fell 3-1 to Mines in game one. Recording the loss, fanning four batters, was Nikki Haberkorn who falls to 4-8 this season.

Regis took the first lead in game two as Holley brought in Heronema during the bottom of the first to put the Rangers up 1-0. They increased this lead to 2-0 in the second as Emily Anderson singled through the right side to score Natalie Adami.

Taking advantage of a Ranger error, Mines put themselves on the board in the top of the third to sit down by one, 2-1, going into the bottom of the inning. The bottom of the fourth brought two more Ranger runs to put them up 4-1 going into the fifth. A scoreless fifth inning brought the sixth and no runs for the Orediggers. Regis rallied for five runs in the bottom of the inning on five hits to end the game in six with an eight run mercy rule, 9-1.

Holley recorded the win and sits at 11-5 this season.

Up next, Regis will travel to Adams State on April 2nd to take on the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for noon.
