Las Vegas, N.M.: Junior pitcher Charlie Henderson went the distance allowing just two runs and six hits in the Rangers 4-2 victory over New Mexico Highlands. The victory snaps a nine-game losing streak to the Cowboys dating back to 2008.
Regis improved to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in early RMAC action got on board first in the second inning on a single to centerfield by junior Colt Meacham. New Mexico Highlands responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning but were stymied by Henderson the rest of the way.
With one out in the third inning, senior Zach Blakeley walked and then advanced to third when freshman Jon Shoutta singled through the left side. Shoutta stole second and then junior Alex Haag walked to set up a bases loaded situation for junior Ty Lain.
Lain responded by singling to left field, driving in Blakeley and Shoutta. Regis tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning on a NMHU error.
Shoutta and Lain both collected three hits apiece, while Meacham and sophomores Wes Keelan and Bob Terry each had one hit.
Henderson threw his first complete game of the season and improves to 2-0 while striking out three.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow.
