Belmont, N.C.: The Regis women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the young season defeating Belmont Abbey 9-7. The Rangers trailed 6-3 at halftime but outscored the Crusaders 6-1 in the second half.
Junior Morgan Taylor scored two goals in the first 1:06 of the second half to put Regis back in the game at 6-5. Belmont Abbey scored with 24:51 remaining in the game on a free-position shot Elyse Mohn to make it 7-5.
Just over 10 minutes later, junior Erin Dybus pulled the Rangers to within one and 42 seconds later sophomore Jessika Carlstrom tied the game with a goal.
Senior Kelsi Goings scored the game-winner with 6:51 remaining when she scored her only goal of the game on a free-position shot. Freshman Danica Cutshall put the game away when she scored her second goal of the afternoon, as the Rangers played one up, with just 3:27 remaining.
Morgan and Carlstrom each joined Cutshall with two goals apiece. Freshman Kendra Burch and junior AriAnna McDonald led the Ranger defense with five ground balls each. Cutshall led the Rangers with three caused turnovers.
Senior Erin Lewis improved to 2-0 in goal as she turned back nine shots and allowed just seven.
Regis will look to return to Denver 3-0 following their Wednesday morning neutral site matchup with Urbana.
