Box Score Winter Park, Fla.: The Regis women's lacrosse team knew they had the personnel to play with any team in the country. In their biggest test of the season, the Rangers were nipped by #8 Rollins College 17-15.
Regis (9-2) fell behind Rollins (10-3) 8-4 with 14:27 remaining in the first half. The Rangers then scored the next four goals, including two in a row by freshman Danica Cutshall to tie the game at eight with just over four minutes left in the first half.
The Tars scored the next two goals before senior Cristina Johnson netted a shot with just 1:22 remaining in the initial stanza and the Rangers went into halftime down just 10-9.
Junior Erin Dybus scored one of her three goals just 36 seconds into the second half to tie the score at 10. Regis tied the game at 12 and again at 13 but just couldn't take the lead as Rollins scored four of the last six goals to take the game 17-15.
The usually balanced Regis offense again was on course as eight Rangers scored including three each by Dybus, Johnson and Cutshall.
Cutshall led the Rangers with two assists and a game-high six draw controls. Junior Morgan Taylor had two goals and assisted on one other. The Tars outshot the Rangers 37-27 with Regis outscoring Rollins from the free position area 4-1.
With her fifth draw control of the game, Cutshall set the Regis season record in that category passing current Regis assistant coach Jen Gunlikson and her 41 draw controls in 2008. Cutshall now has 43.
Regis will stay in Winter Park and take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday afternoon.
