Baseball Takes Two More From Mines; Series Finale Tomorrow at Noon

Denver, Colo.: Following a game in which there were 34 runs scored on Friday, Regis and Colorado Mines were locked in two pitchers duals with Regis victorious in both 6-3 and 2-1.

Regis (15-14, 13-9 RMAC) jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first.  Freshman Steven Brault led off the game with a double to right field.  He then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Bob Terry.  Senior Zach Blakeley drove him in on a groundout to the shortstop.  Freshman Jon Shoutta then came up and blasted his RMAC-leading 11th homerun over the right center fence to make it 2-0.

Colorado Mines (7-23, 5-16 RMAC) cut the deficit in half with a run in the third.  The Rangers responded in the third with a run of their own on two errors in the same play by the Orediggers.

Mines tied the game in the fourth scoring two runs when the first three batters reached base on a Regis error and a single and double.  Regis starter, junior Steve Falconi, kept the Orediggers at bay in the inning with just the two runs scored.  Falconi earned his fourth win of the season going six innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run, while striking out four.

The local nine then tagged on another run after Terry walked and then moved to third on a single by Blakeley.  Blakeley attempted to steal second and the throw was cut off but the speedy Terry was still able to score from third.

Regis tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning.  Sophomore Nano Jacobsen hit his first career homerun, a shot that was just inside the left field foul pole.  Two batters later Brault doubled and then was driven in by Terry's single through the left side.

Sophomore Hunter Aronson came in and pitched a perfect seventh to earn his second save of the season.

Brault went 2-for-4, while Terry was a perfect 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.

Game two was a pitcher's dual indeed.

Regis starter Brault and Mines starter Matt Brown each went the distance.  Brault allowed one run in the first inning, it was unearned, and then cruised from there allowing just three hits over the next six innings to earn his third victory of the season.

Brault struck out a career-high seven batters and walked just one.

Brown was the hard-luck loser scattering five hits and both his runs scored were unearned as he struck out six Rangers.

The Rangers scored both their runs in the fourth inning and both with two outs.  In fact, junior Ty Lain got on via an error that would have gotten Mines out of the inning.  The Rangers took advantage of the Orediggers misfortune.

Junior Dave Holland then doubled to right center and Lain moved to third.  Jacobsen had another clutch hit, this time a single to left field that drove in Lain and Holland.

That is all the runs the Rangers needed and will look to go for the four-game series sweep tomorrow at noon at the Regis Baseball Field.

Holland and Jacobsen recorded four of the Rangers five hits, with each of them going 2-for-3.
