Denver, Colo.: The Regis seniors bid adieu on Sunday by completing a sweep against the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls for their last home series. Game one ended 6-5 before the Rangers defeated Highlands 9-1 in five innings in game two.
After shutting out the Cowgirls for two innings, the Rangers posted two runs to the board in the bottom of the second on three hits. Shannon Massine brought in the first as she singled up the middle to score Amber Aragon-Autobee. Alisa Heronema brought in the second run, Emily Anderson, on a single to left field.
A single and double by Nikki Haberkorn and Cassie Long respectively, scored Bianca Holley and Haberkorn to put the Rangers up by four, 4-0, in the third.
A Cowgirl homerun by Kristy Partridge in the top of the fourth brought in Sami Butler to bring NMHU within two of the Rangers, 4-2. A three-run bomb in the sixth by Roxy Avalos put Highlands up 5-4 going into the bottom of the inning.
Massine answered back in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off double to end the game 6-5 in favor of Regis. Holley recorded the win and is now 17-9 this season.
Regis took the first lead in game two as well when Holley singled up the middle to bring Heronema in for the first run in the bottom of the first. The third brought five more Ranger runs, 6-0, as Regis tallied three hits and took advantage of two Cowgirl errors.
In the fourth, Regis tacked another run to the board, 7-0, as Aragon-Autobee tripled to lead off the inning before being brought in by Anderson.
A leadoff single for the Cowgirls in the fifth turned into a run to cut their deficit to six, 7-1.
Cassie Long doubled in the fifth to bring in Haberkorn for another Ranger run, 8-1.
Haberkorn recorded the win and sits at 11-11 this season.
