Rangers Fall to #20 Colorado Mines 2-1

The Ranger women's soccer team played the nationally ranked 20 RMAC Conference opponent Colorado Mines today at the Regis Match Pitch.  The women gave a good effort, but could not piece together enough goals to outscore the Orediggers from Golden, Colo.

In the fifth minute of play, Oredigger forward Anna Evans scored in the top left corner of the goal.  Midfielder Megan Woodworth passed it to Evans who was positioned in front of the goal.  Evans then proceeded to finish off the play with the first goal of the match.

Both teams played defense effectively as the next goal was not scored until the 84th minute of play.  The Orediggers Woodworth crossed the ball to forward Joanna Graves in the middle of the field.  Graves then got the ball past Ranger goalkeeper Ellen Augsburger

The Rangers scored their first goal in the 87th minute.  The team increased their intensity level in an attempt to keep the game going.  Midfielder Rachel McMahon started the play with a corner kick to forward Jordan Miller.  Miller then gave it back to McMahon who served it in from of the goal.  Midfielder Marissa Davis was there to get the header through the Mines goalie.

Davis said "we started slow today."  She went on to say, "we came back in the second half and worked as a team.  My goal came because Jordan Miller called a corner and played the ball back to Rachel McMahon.  No one marked me on the play."

The goal brought the game to 2-1, where it would stay for the rest of the match.

Augsburger will get the loss, despite an outstanding effort in goal.  The 5-3 goalie from Fenton, Mo. had five saves on the day and allowed only two goals.  The Oredigger offense had seven shots on goal and two assists.

The Ranger women will play on Wednesday, September 21st at the Regis Match Pitch.  They will be competing against cross town rivals, Metro State.
