Regis Rangers Best #6 Metro State Roadrunners 2-1

The women's soccer team took on the nationally ranked #6 Metro State Roadrunners today.  The women outscored the Roadrunners 2-1 on the day.

Rangers scored first in the 30th minute of play.  The play started with a corner kick from midfielder Rachel McMahon.  McMahon delivered the ball to defender Taylor White in front of the goal where White introduced the ball to the back of the net.

Head coach J.B. Belzer said "we had the restart goal to begin which we've worked on and executed well."  He went on to say "It was a good goal there. "

In the 62nd minute, the Roadrunners received a penalty kick for a hand ball.  Forward Abby Rolph took the kick for Metro to the left side of the net for their first and only goal of the game, bringing the score to 1-1.

Belzer stated "we were a bit unfortunate on the penalty call for a hand ball, but you know, sometimes you get breaks like that and you have to regroup, which we did."  He went on to say "we could have folded or packed it in, but we responded and that was what I told the kids after the game I was most proud of."

The Rangers were not done, however, as midfielder Marissa Davis earned possession of the ball midfield.  She passed the ball to forward Meghan Stuart who turned with one dribble before she sent the ball into the left side of the net for the game-winning goal.

Belzer commented that "the winning goal was a fantastic counter sequence, where we picked the ball off and went quickly.  We had great composure to take the opening touch and drill it past the keeper for the winner."

Goalkeeper Nicole Eddings will get the win with nine saves on the day and one goal allowed.  The Rangers had nine shots on goal and two assists during the game.

Belzer ended "it was a very important win when we've been on a three game slide.  We still had to go out and play to our ability level."  He continued, "It was a very good result, obviously, when you beat the number six team in the country when you've been on a three game slide, so that feels wonderful.  We must try to go forth from here."

The Rangers will play again at home on Friday, September 23rd against Colorado State University-Pueblo.   The game will kick off at 4:30 PM.
