The Rangers entered the match pitch prepared to give a good show for family weekend. The team shut out the Adams State College Grizzlies 4-0. The Rangers had 15 shots, nine of which were on goal.
Head coach J.B. Belzer stated, "They were a very athletic team and we will see them again in two weeks and I know they'll be itching for a rematch but I like the way we played today, we'll see if we can continue forward on Sunday."
The first goal came by the foot of midfielder Rachel McMahon in the 17th minute. She received a pass from forward CC Rinehart who got the ball from the middle of the field. Rinehart beat her defender and dribbled down the right side of the field and passed to McMahon who ripped it into the left-center of the goal.
The Rangers did not score again until close to the end of the half at the 42nd minute. Forward Jordan Miller passed from the midst of her defenders to forward Chelsea Bokan who, with fresh legs, chipped the ball over the goalie's reach for the second goal of the day.
Belzer commented, "When you're going to reserves and getting a couple of goals from a player like Chelsea Bokan, you know things are rolling. She took her chances very well today, first touch of the game was a goal, and that's how you make your mark and that's how you impact the game after coming in off the bench."
Shortly into the second half, the Ranger offense struck again. Miller passed to forward Meghan Stuart, who crossed to Rinehart for a header into the top of the goal for the third goal of the game at the 53rd minute mark.
The fourth and final goal scored by the Rangers occurred in the 84th minute of play. From midfield, midfielder Kendal Kagawa got the ball on the left side of the field. After she dribbled down the line towards the Grizzlies' goal, she crossed to Bokan who finished with her second goal of the game.
On the day, Belzer finished, "I am very pleased with today's results; efficiency was the word of the day. We had nine shots on goal and four went into the back of the net and we've talked about that, it's a very good conversion rate and that is the story on the day. Tactfully, we understood how they were playing and defensively we managed it as the scoring efficiency gave us the breathing room and confidence to get it done."
Nicole Eddings will get the win with four saves. The Rangers will play at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo. on Sunday, October 2nd at 3:30 PM.
