Rangers Finish with Tie against ThunderWolves

Box Score

After an exciting game that entered double over-time, the Rangers finished with a 0-0 tie against the ThunderWolves of Colorado State University-Pueblo.  Both teams performed well, giving great effort to the contest; however, neither team could manage to score in time.

As exciting as soccer always is, it came down to the end of the second overtime.  In the last seconds of the game, the Rangers gained possession of the ball and raced it down the field towards the Pueblo goal.  The pass came in to midfielder Lio DelPiccolo with two seconds left on the clock.  It was enough time to get the shot off, but it went just wide of the goal.

Head coach Tony McCall stated, "We decided, as a group, that we were going to go for it and we weren't going to play for a tie and that's what we did.  I thought that out of the two teams in the overtime, we had the better opportunities, but again, it's just one of those things that we weren't able to put it away."

Despite being down one man due to a red card in the 79th minute given to forward Kyle Emge, the Rangers managed to put up 14 shots, six of which were on goal.

Chris Couperus spent the whole 120 minutes in the game and managed seven saves on the day.

McCall also commented, "It's a hard fought tie.  Obviously going down to 10 men really, we really needed to dig pretty deep to show what kind of character we have and I was very happy with how the players responded.  Credit to Pueblo for playing hard and fair today.  We'll take the point and move on to the next game.

The Rangers will play Sunday, October 2nd at the Regis Match in Denver, Colo.  The men will be competing against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at 2:00 PM.
