Box Score Pueblo, Colo.: The 18th-ranked Ranger volleyball team rolled to a three-set win over CSU-Pueblo in RMAC action.
Regis (14-6, 8-2 RMAC) now sits alone in second place in the RMAC East Division, just one game behind Colorado Mines. CSU-Pueblo (11-10, 2-8 RMAC) led 13-11 in the first set before senior Caitlin McDonnell single-handedly took the wind out of the Thunderwolf sail. McDonnell put down four kills in a Ranger 9-0 run to open the game at 20-13. The Rangers sided out the rest of the way for the 25-17 win.
In set two the Rangers and Thunderwolves battled closely and with the score tied at 10, the Rangers went on one of their patented runs. They scored seven straight points to lead 17-10 and held on for the 25-17 win.
Regis opened with leads of 15-8, 17-10 and 19-12 before CSU-Pueblo made a late push. The Thunderwolves scored five of the next seven points to close the gap to 21-17. Two kills by Skylar Conner pulled the home team to within 22-20. Head Coach Frank Lavrisha took a timeout and his team responded. Freshman Caitie Breaux put down a kill and then back-to-back kills by fellow freshman Katie Klein closed out set three for Regis at 25-20.
McDonnell and Klein led the way offensively with 10 kills apiece. Junior Lauren Flanagan put down eight kills in just 12 attempts for a .583 attack percentage. The Rangers had six service aces on the evening and hit .288 on the night.
Sophomore Gina Morgan had a team-high three blocks, with McDonnell being a part of two. Freshman Jaclyn Williamson played two sets and had 26 assists, while freshman Rebecca Sponcil assisted on 12 assists. Junior Sage Martinson led all players with 14 digs, with Klein getting 10.
The Rangers close out their three-game road trip with a matchup against Western State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
