Box Score Denver, Colo.: The 20th-ranked Regis University volleyball team cruised to their 11th victory of the season with a 3-0 win over New Mexico Highlands.
Regis (11-6, 5-2 RMAC) opened set one with a 10-2 run and easily took set one 25-11. New Mexico Highlands (6-10, 2-5 RMAC) played the Rangers tight early but with the score tied at four Regis put all doubts away going on an 8-1 run to lead 12-5. Regis led 23-14 before the Cowgirls made a late rally to cut the lead to 24-18 before a service error by NMHU put the score at 25-18.
Regis only trailed once in the entire match and in set three led wire-to-wire en route to the 25-14 win.
The Rangers hit .380 for the match, the second highest total of the season. They held New Mexico Highlands to just .043, the second lowest the Rangers have allowed this season.
Regis got a balanced offensive attack with freshmen Caitie Breaux and Katie Klein leading the way with 10 kills apiece. Neither had any attack errors with Klein hitting .714 and Breaux .667. Senior Makayla Higgins chipped in with seven kills, while senior Caitlin McDonnell and sophomore Gina Morgan each getting five.
Freshman Rebecca Sponcil started the first two sets and assisted on 22 assists while ranking second with five digs. Freshman Jaclyn Williamson had 12 assists in just one set, while junior Sage Martinson led all players with nine digs tying Klein for top honors.
Regis will welcome Western New Mexico on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
