Box Score Denver, Colo.: The 20th ranked Regis University volleyball team got 24 combined kills from senior Caitlin McDonnell and freshman Katie Klein in dispensing Western New Mexico in three sets.
Regis (12-6, 6-2 RMAC) got 12 kills each from McDonnell and Klein and held the RMAC leader in kills, Angelina Pulu, to just nine kills. The Rangers led early but Western New Mexico (7-11, 4-4 RMAC) battled back to tie a few points and trailed just 11-8 before Regis scored nine of the next 10 points to take a commanding 20-11 lead en route to a 25-17 win.
The Mustangs tied the score three times early in the second set before Regis responded with an 8-3 run and WNMU never tied or held another lead in the second set, in which Regis won 25-13, or the third set which Regis led wire-to-wire and took the set 25-20.
The Rangers defense was again solid as they held the Mustangs to a .017 attack percentage, the lowest for any Ranger opponent this season. Regis hit .220 and had nine total blocks to just one for the visitors.
McDonnell hit .417 while Klein was right behind at .379. Senior Makayla Higgins and junior Lauren Flanagan each chipped in with nine kills. Sophomore Maya Kirkeby had two service aces and was second with 14 digs. Junior Sage Martinson led all players with 16 digs.
Flanagan led all with five blocks, while McDonnell was a part in four of them. Freshman Jaclyn Williamson had 30 set assists and seven digs, while Higgins grabbed eight.
Regis will travel to Alamosa, Colo. on Thursday to take on Adams State for the start of a three-game road trip.
