Box Score Denver, Colo.: The matchup for first in the RMAC did not quite live up to the billing as #14 Colorado Mines swept #13 Regis to take sole possession of first place with just three contests left in the season.
Regis (19-8, 13-3 RMAC) led early in the first set but Mines (20-5, 14-2 RMAC) went on a 12-4 run and never looked back cruising to a 25-1 win. Set two wasn't much better for the Rangers; they never held the lead and only managed two ties in the Orediggers 25-13 win.
The third set looked like it might be different when Regis held a 9-4 lead and a 14-9 lead. However, the Orediggers fought back and cut the lead to 17-16 and again at 21-20. Regis took a 24-22 lead following a bad set by CSM, but the Orediggers scored the next two points on back-to-back kills by Jackie Stabell to knot the game. The Rangers had an attack error to give Mines a shot at match point, in which Stabell put down one of her match-high 12 kills to end the Ranger hopes.
Regis hit just .075 for the match which was the lowest the Rangers have hit this season. Mines hit a paltry .280 for the match.
Freshman Caitie Breaux put down nine kills for RU, with fellow freshman Katie Klein adding eight. Freshman Jaclyn Williamson had 27 assists, three service aces and one block solo and two total blocks on the night.
Junior Sage Martinson had a team-high 10 digs, while senior Makayla Higgins and freshman Rebecca Sponcil each chipped in with seven.
Regis will look to rebound when they host Colorado Christian tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
