Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.: Regis University women's basketball (1-2) took home their first win on the season today in Denver, Colo. in their own Thanksgiving Classic tournament. The Rangers defeated the Jets of Newman University 83-61 on the day to finish their first home game with a big win.
Despite entering the second half tied 30-30, the Rangers picked up the energy and finished the night with a 22-point lead, scoring 53 points in the second half alone. Senior Sarah Feeney and junior Tae'lor Purdy led the Rangers with 18 and 17 points respectively.
Feeney also pulled down six rebounds while putting up one steal, one block and one assist. She hit a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe and went 2-for-2 from long distance while bucketing six of her 11 attempts from the field.
Purdy hit on eight-of-13 from the free throw line, one three-pointer and four-of-12 from the field for her 17 points. She pulled down seven rebounds and put up two assists on the night.
Leading the Ranger defense was senior Meghan Hollenga who pulled down 10 for Regis.
Senior Nicole Brzeczek collect eight points on the night and led the Rangers with three steals and five assists.
The Rangers finished 45.6 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from long distance on the night.
They will continue tournament play tomorrow at 3:00 PM in the Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, Colo. against #8 University of Indianapolis.
