Box Score 2 Denver, Colo.: The Regis University men's basketball team didn't have enough in the second half and fell to Chadron State, 71-62 in RMAC action.
Regis (2-5, 1-3 RMAC) led for all but 2:00 of the first 17:46 of the first half before a layup by Brandon Pippenger of Chadron State (1-8, 1-4 RMAC) tied the game with 2:14 remaining. Neither team could find the bottom of the net for nearly two minutes before sophomore Dylan King broke the stalemate with a layup from junior Jon Conley with just 23 seconds left in the half.
The Rangers led for the first seven and a half minutes of the second half, before the Eagles hot shooting put them ahead. Pippenger hit two free throws for CSC to take a 44-43 lead with 11:29 remaining. A three pointer by King with 9:56 left in the game knotted the score at 48 but 12-4 run for Chadron over the next three minutes proved too much for Regis.
Regis couldn't get any closer than five the rest of the way and fell 71-62.
Senior Demitrius Owens had his best night of the season with a game-high 21 points and a team-high six rebounds. Junior Jarrett Green chipped in with 10 points and led the Rangers with four assists. Freshman Kevin Marshall had nine and junior Corbin Green scored seven.
Regis was just 3-for-20 from three-point range and were outscored at the free throw line 25-17 as CSC shot 39 free throws to just 22 for Regis.
Regis returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Black Hills State for the first time ever. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Regis Fieldhouse.
