Box Score Denver, Colo.: The Ranger women's basketball team took a big 77-75 win over the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney Friday night.
The Lopers put up a 12-3 lead in the first five minutes before the Rangers kicked it into action, gaining the lead, and keeping it until the last nine seconds of play. With 30 seconds on the clock and the score at 54-53 in favor of the Rangers, the Lopers gained possession and called a timeout.
They used that time to get the ball to Ivy Jones for a made jump shot at nine seconds, bringing the Lopers up by one.
The Rangers were not going to let this one go too easily, however. Guard Brandi Collins got the ball at the six second mark and was not letting it up. She dribbled around the defense, looking for a play or an opportunity.
She got her opportunity in long distance range. With mere seconds on the clock, Collins puts up a three that was nothing but good to put the Rangers up by two and keep the Lopers from another chance at the net.
The women hit 22-of-54 field goals for a .407 field goal percentage and were 6-for-20 from long distance for a .300 three-point field goal percentage on the night.
Forward Sarah Feeney led the women with 12 points off the bench. She hit 4-of-8 from the field and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. Feeney also led the women with six rebounds, while tallying one assist and one steal.
Forward Tae'lor Purdy followed the women with 11 points, while also pulling down four rebounds and collecting two steals.
In 39 minutes of play, guard Brandi Collins scored nine points and pulled down four rebounds. She picked up four assists and three steals while also netting the game-winning points.
Post Kari Ameling and forward Miranda Martine each collected eight points on the night. Ameling led the Rangers with four steals over the Lopers, while she pulled down four rebounds and collected a pair of assists.
Martine picked up three steals in her 3-of-8 performance from the field and 2-of-6 performance from long distance.
The Rangers will play at home Saturday, February 11th at 7:00 PM against the Chadron State College Eagles.
