Women's Lacrosse Scores First Nine Goals En Route to 22-9 WILA Win Over Colorado Mesa

Box Score

Grand Junction, Colo.: Coming off a record-breaking year in 2011, the 2012 version looked to start the season in a similar fashion and did by defeating Colorado Mesa 22-9.  The Rangers scored the first nine goals over a 12-minute span.

Regis (1-0, 1-0 WILA) got two goals each from junior Margaret Nahrup and senior Morgan Taylor and led at halftime 11-3.  Colorado Mesa (0-1, 0-1 WILA) scored three goals late, but it was too little too late as Regis cruised to the 22-9 victory for their seventh straight WILA victory.

Regis had 38 total shots compared to 18 for Colorado Mesa and also controlled the draw controls with 22 to just 10 for the Mavericks.

Regis was 7-for-10 in free position shots, while Mesa was stopped on all five of their attempts.

Nahrup led the team with four goals scored, while Taylor and sophomores Danica Cutshall and Kelsey O'Connor each tallied three goals.

Freshman Gianna Lombardi stopped eight shots in her first collegiate game.

Regis will travel to Colorado Springs on Tuesday to take on rival Colorado College.
