Big Night from Collins; Does Not Lift Rangers over Orediggers

Box Score

Denver, Colo.: The Regis women put in a gritty performance Saturday night against the Colorado School of Mines, but the Orediggers (8-14, 7-9 RMAC) rallied to defeat the Rangers (8-14, 6-10 RMAC) by a final score of 76-71 at the Regis Field House.

The Rangers got off to a slow start in the first half, falling behind 8-2 in the first two minutes. However, the home team responded with six unanswered points, five of which were scored by sophomore guard Brandi Collins.
The run tied the score at eight. The Orediggers again built a modest advantage, but an 18-4 run later in the half would give the Rangers a comfortable eight-point lead.
With 13 first half points from Collins, the Rangers brought a 36-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Orediggers chipped away in the second half, capping off their rally with a 7-0 run to take a seven-point lead with 10:23 remaining. The Rangers responded with a 9-2 run to once again tie the score.
From there the Orediggers took permanent control, though not without a fight. The visitors built a 10-point lead with 3:04 remaining, but eight late points from Collins brought Regis back to within striking distance.
Despite the guard's efforts, the women could not complete the comeback. The Orediggers went on to win by a final score of 76-71.
Collins led the Rangers with 23 points in 34 minutes of play. She connected on 8-of-12 field goal attempts and was 4-for-8 from three-point range. Collins also collected a pair of steals and two defensive rebounds.
Sophomore forward Tae'lor Purdy had a strong performance for the Rangers as well. She scored 19 points on the night and led the team with nine total rebounds. Purdy continues to lead the Rangers in both total points (348) and total rebounds (141) this season.
Senior post Kari Ameling contributed with 10 points of her own. She also collected five total rebounds in 31 minutes of play.
The Rangers will make up Saturday's postponed game on Monday night against Colorado Christian College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Regis Field House.
