Box Score Kearney, Neb.: (By Dylan Docker) The Rangers hit the road to take on the Lopers in a four-game weekend series. Regis (10-10, 5-7 RMAC) won the first three games before Nebraska-Kearney (7-13, 6-6 RMAC) salvaged the finale.
Game One
The Rangers prevailed in Friday's series opener by a score of 7-3. Senior Alex Haag gave Regis a permanent lead in the first inning with a two-out grand slam over the center field wall. The homer was Haag's second of the season.
Steven Brault collected four hits in five plate appearances. A fifth-inning triple and a trio of singles netted the sophomore right fielder two RBI's and two runs scored.
Senior right-hander Charlie Henderson (2-1) turned in a performance for the Rangers, pitching seven innings and allowing just three runs while striking out nine Lopers to pick up the win.
Game Two (7 innings)
The same two teams continued the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Rangers won the morning game 7-6 after scoring five times in the fifth inning. In the inning Haag came up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double to left-center field.
Haag ended up with two hits and a walk in four plate appearances. Senior Dave Holland went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Right-handed senior Mike McElreath (3-1) picked up the win after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Junior righty Hunter Aronson (2) got into trouble in the seventh inning but held on to pick up the save for Regis.
Game Three (7 innings)
The Regis offense continued to produce in game three as the visitors claimed an 11-9 victory in Saturday's nightcap. Sophomore Jon Shoutta's two-run blast opened up the Regis lead in the seventh inning, guiding the Rangers to their fifth consecutive win.
Shoutta went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a walk. Haag collected another two hits with an RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomore right-hander Kevin Ross (1-0) was credited with the win after relieving starter Steve Falconi, who pitched two innings, allowed five runs (four earned), and struck out two. Ross allowed no runs and struck out a pair in four innings of relief work.
Game Four
Nebraska-Kearney took revenge in Sunday's series finale with a 24-8 win. The Lopers scored in every inning but the second, capping off their attack with 11 runs in the eighth inning.
Shoutta connected for another long ball, a three-run shot in the first inning and his fifth of the season. Junior Bob Terry went 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
Junior righty Aaron Harms (4-2) took the loss out of the bullpen after yielding three runs in one inning of work. He relieved starter Kyle Mack, who allowed six runs (three earned) and struck out five in four innings.
Despite the loss in game four, Regis departed Kearney having claimed three wins and the series victory. The Rangers will head to Colorado Mesa University on Friday, March 23 to open up another four game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
