Box Score Alamosa, Colo.: The second place Regis University women's lacrosse team today cruised to a 14-2 WILA victory over Adams State.
Regis (4-4, 3-1 WILA) got two goals early on, one by sophomore Danica Cutshall and one by junior Jessika Carlstrom. Lexy Hamilton cut the lead in half for Adams State (0-4, 0-4 WILA) with 22:00 remaining in the first half.
Nearly 11 minutes went by before another goal was scored, this time by Regis' freshman Hilary Duda. Regis scored the next two goals to take a 5-1 lead into the halftime break. Ranger sophomore Kelsey O'Connor scored just 43 seconds into the second half, but Hamilton responded for Adams State three minutes later to cut the lead to 6-2.
The Regis defense tightened the screws and didn't allow the Grizzlies to score again and the offense scored eight more to win teh game going away 14-2.
Regis took twice as many shots as Adams State, 24-12 and controlled the draw controls taking 13 of the 18 draw control attempts.
Cutshall, Duda, O'Connor, and senior Morgan Taylor scored three goals apiece for the balanced regis attack. Taylor and fellow senior Erin Dybus led all players with two assists each. Freshman Gianna Lombardi led the Rangers with four ground balls, while O'Connor, Carlstrom, Erin Flynn, Sierra Perrella, and Katie Neary all tallied three ground balls.
Lombardi earned the win with two saves and only allowing the two goals.
Regis will host Fort Lewis on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., while hosting Grand Valley State on Sunday at noon.
