Box Score 2 CHADRON, Neb.: The Ranger softball team took their first two RMAC Conference losses on Sunday at Chadron State College. The women lost 7-3 in the first game and 7-0 in the second game, bringing them to 1-11 in overall play and 0-2 in the RMAC.
In the first game, the Eagles jumped early scoring two runs in the first and one in the second to start the game. In the third, sophomore Breanna Backlund recorded an RBI single to put the Rangers on the board before the Eagles sent them back out to the field.
They had another spark in the fifth when junior Shannon Massine reached on a single. She advanced to third on a double by freshman Rachel Illias, and scored on a wild pitch. Senior Cassie Long also collected an RBI single when she hit in Illias from third.
The Eagles would score three in the third and one in the fourth before the Rangers kept their bats silent for the rest of the game.
Illias went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Senior right-hander Nikki Haberkorn (0-6) collected the loss after facing 18 batters in three innings. She tallied three strikeouts while allowing six runs in eight hits. Freshman Molly Tyler also saw three innings in the circle, facing 10 batters. She struck out three, while allowing one run and one hit.
The second game proved just as difficult for the Rangers as they succumbed to the Eagles seven runs.
The Rangers saw some excitement in the fourth when freshman Taylor Wilcox reached on a walk and advanced to second after a bunting single from Massine. Senior Maegan Cooley collected a single also, sending Wilcox around third for an attempt at home. The Eagles right fielder threw a line to the catcher to get her out at the plate.
The Eagles would score three in the first, and two in the third and fifth to close out the day.
Illias hit 2-for-4 during, while three other women had hits on the day. Wilcox walked twice.
Molly Tyler (0-2) received the loss, allowing five hits and four runs, while walking one and striking out one. Freshman Sydney Gaffin saw four innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three in 17 batters faced.
The women will continue the Chadron away series Monday, March 5th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
