Rangers Take Day Two over Grizzlies, Results in Split of Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENVER, Colo.:  The Ranger women's softball program collected two wins over the Grizzlies of Adams State College today.  The home field advantage helped the women bring the scores to 8-3 in the first game and 4-2 in the second game.

The Rangers had a lot to prove to the Grizzlies after two tough losses on Saturday and they did just that.  The women struck in the first inning, capitalizing on an error by the short stop on senior Cassie Long's hit to put junior Shannon Massine at home.

The team continued with six runs in the second inning and one in the third to bring the score to 8-0 with a Regis advantage.  The Grizzlies put on three runs in the fourth to attempt to close the gap, but were shut down by senior right-hander Nikki Haberkorn.

Haberkorn (6-11) received the win for her 7.0 full innings of work.  She allowed four hits, three runs and one walk, while fanning three in her 30 batters faced.

Haberkorn also went 3-for-3 at the plate with one double and two singles.  Freshman Taylor Wilcox earned three RBIs in her 1-for-2 performance.  Massine and freshman Rachel Illias also collect two hits and one RBI apiece.

Both sides worked hard to make it a good show for the fans in the second game.  Adams State scored one run in the first inning for an early lead, but the Rangers answered with one of their own in the second to even the score.

The Rangers scored two more runs in the fourth inning before Adams State scored another in the sixth to bring the scoreto 3-2 going into the bottom of the sixth.

The women earned one more insurance run in the sixth and turned it over to the Ranger defense to finish out the game.

Big plays all day from the women including senior Natalie Adami and freshman Illias helped the Rangers close out that harsh Grizzly offense.

Freshman Sydney Gaffin (5-4) earned herself a win for the game.  In 7.0 innings of work, Gaffin allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out five.

The Rangers will head out on the road next week to face RMAC competitor's Colorado School of Mines Orediggers.  The games will take place on Friday, April 6th at 12:00 and 2:00 PM and Saturday, April 7th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
