Pitcher's Dual Goes Way of Minnesota State, Mankato at NCAA Central Region Tournament

Box Score

Mankato, Minn.: Senior Charlie Henderson and Tyler Ockuly locked into a pitcher's dual that wasn't decided till the 10th inning with Minnesota State, Mankato squeaking out a 1-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Central Region Tournament at Franklin Rogers Park.

The crowd of over 600 at the "Frank" got free baseball when after nine innings of play  neither team had scored.  Connor McCallum, who had four of the Mavericks (45-10) six hits singled to centerfield.  Jeremy Sudbeck then sacrifice bunted McCallum to second base.  Nolan Johnson moved McCallum to third after bouncing out to Tony Piazza at first.  Maverick leadoff hitter Lucas Skjefte hit a ball in between first and second that looked like it was going to find green grass but Piazza made a great play on the ball making a diving stop, however, his throw to first was late and McCallum was able to score the winning run.

The Rangers (32-22) had a chance in their half of the inning in the 10th when catcher Nano Jabocsen led off the inning with a single to left field.  With two strikes, third baseman Dave Holland laid down a picture perfect bunt that moved Jacobsen over.  Shortstop Cody Hastings was set down on strikes and head coach Dan McDermott went to his bench and pinch hit with Jon Shoutta.  Jacobsen was able to move to third on a wild pitch but with a 3-2 count and two outs, Ockuly threw a curveball that Shoutta was not able to get a bat on ending the Ranger threat.

Henderson (6-5) threw 9 2/3 innings allowing just the one earned run while scattering six hits.  He struck out seven batters and threw 125 pitches.  Ockuly struck out 12 Ranger batters and scattered five hits in his 10 innings of work.

Centerfielder Ryan Eustice, designated hitter Alex Haag, Piazza, Jacobsen, and Hastings all had one hit for Regis.

Regis will head to the loser's bracket where they will take on Winona State who fell to St. Cloud State 12-7 earlier in the day.
