Box Score DENVER, Colo.: Freshman Sade Akindele put up two Ranger goals in the second half to bring the Rangers to a come from behind tie to finish the double overtime match against Metro State. The Rangers bring their record to 2-2-1 with the completion of their first conference match of the 2012 season.
The Rangers went down early in the first half, as Metro scored in the 9th minute. The first half would see no more goals, but early into the second half, Metro would place another goal in between the Ranger posts.
In the 64th minute and down by two, senior midfielder Marissa Davis sent a perfect ball over to Akindele who was right in front of the goal within the 10 yard box. The forward turned and sent her shot to the back of the net to bring the Rangers up 1-2 with 26 minutes left to play.
Akindele got another change in the 80th minute and took it. The ball was stolen from the Ranger defense, Akindele bested her defender and the goalie to tie up the score 2-2.
"Metro is always a big rival game," commented Akindele. "We had a team dinner last night where we talked about being a team,pumping each other up and playing with passion."
Akindele attempted three shots on the day, all three of which were on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Ellen Augsburger spent 110:00 minutes in goal for the Rangers. She tallied 12 saves on the day.
"We showed some character today." commented head coach JB Belzer. "To be 2-0 down to a decent team, come back, get something out of the game and have a chance to win it, we feel good about the overall result."
The Rangers will return home to play CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, September 16 at 1:00 PM.
