Box Score DENVER, Colo.: Ranger men's soccer dropped the CSU-Pueblo
ThunderWolves 4-1 in their second Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference match. Four Rangers added goals on the day,
bringing the Regis goal count to 19 on the season.
Regis went up 3-0 in the first half, making their first goal in
the 12th minute of play. Senior Alex Tarnozci
attempted to put off a cross which rebounded back to him. He
was able to put the ball through his defenders to sophomore Adam
Tormoehlen who sent the ball to the back of the net.
The Rangers would score their second and third goals late in the
first half. In the 40th minute, the ThunderWolves
put a shot on goal that was saved by freshman goalkeeper Christian
Nicolosi. He connected with Tarnozci across the pitch who
set off toward the goal, sending the ball over 65 yards to the
senior. Tarnozci turned, bested two defenders to the left and
sent the ball past the ThunderWolves keeper to the right.
"We came off strong like we wanted to and worked on putting the
game away in the first half," stated Tarnozci. "We got some
good goals today and played well defensively."
Senior Mark Kelly
earned his first goal of the season with two minutes left on the
clock in the first half. Freshman Jason Boyle
won a tackle in midfield and slipped the ball down the
middle between two defenders to Kelly just at the top of
the 18-yard box. Kelly chipped the ball up and to the left,
nicking the post and putting it through the left side of the
goal.
"It's good to be involved with the Rangers and get my first
goal," commented Kelly. "They're a great bunch of guys and
have made me feel really welcome."
Sophomore Martin
Maybin scored his third goal of the season early in the second
half. He gained possession of the ball, beat his defenders
and scored through the right side of the goal.
The Ranger defense allowed one goal with 21 minutes remaining in
the match. Regis maintains a 0.57 goals against average over
their opponents.
Nicolosi spent 66:58 in goal, saving two shot attempts from the
ThunderWolves and allowing no goals. Senior Scott Brown
also saw time in between the posts, putting up one save for the
Rangers as well.
"We had two big wins in conference this week," said head coach
Tony McCall. "It was good for us to get the lead early and
our play was very good from the back up to the front."
"Everybody played their part today as we were able to play the
majority of our squad today," continued McCall. " Overall,
I'm very happy, we have to enjoy the win and concentrate on the
game against Pueblo coming up on Tuesday."
Regis will travel to Pueblo on Tuesday, September 18th for a
rematch at 7:00 PM.
