Box Score DENVER, Colo.: Nationally ranked #5 Regis men's soccer
garnered another win today over the Grizzlies of Adams State
College. The Rangers are now 7-0-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Regis allowed ASC four shots throughout the game, only one of
which was on goal. Senior goalkeeper Scott Brown
earned the save during his time in between the posts.
Freshman Christian
Nicolosi was not contested during his time in goal as the
Ranger defensive staff stood strong against the Grizzlies.
The first Ranger goal was scored in the 16th minute
of the first half. Senior Alex
Tarnoczi crossed in to sophomore Adam
Tormoehlen from wide right. Tormoehlen jumped and sent a
shot through to the back of the net from the middle of the 10 yard
box.
"It's always tough to play a team like Adams, they come out hard
and have gotten some good results with other teams so far this
season," commented Tormoehlen. "We know the only team that
can beat us is ourselves, so we just have to keep our heads in the
game and we did that well today."
Tarnoczi earned another assist for the Rangers shortly after
their first goal. He passed into sophomore Martin
Maybin who beat a defender and chipped the ball over the
Grizzly goalkeeper to bring the Rangers up 2-0.
Six minutes into the second half, Alex Tarnoczi was dangerous
once again and was fouled at the top of the box for a penalty
kick. Sophomore Logan Miller
took the penalty kick for the Rangers, sending in to the bottom
right corner for a third Regis goal.
Aggressive play throughout the match fueled the Rangers to score
two more before time was up. A short eight and a half minutes
after Miller's penalty kick, senior Stephen Reed
went down the left side and sent the ball across the field to
Tarnoczi who picked it up at the 18 yard box. With just the
goalkeeper between himself and the fourth goal of the match, he
sent the ball to the bottom left to score.
Sophomore Robbie
McElroy scored his first goal of the season with 1:42 left on
the clock. Junior Adam
Hinkelman sent a long ball to McElroy who faced an oncoming
goalkeeper. The Ranger sent the ball to the bottom left of
the goal.
"We are playing with a lot of confidence right now," stated head
coach Tony McCall. "We were outstanding today and I'm very
pleased with another win in the conference."
Regis will host Colorado Mesa on Sunday, September 30 at 3:30 PM
for their next RMAC match.
