Box Score Denver, Colo.: The #23 ranked Regis University volleyball team knew they had a fight on their hand against RMAC-leader UC-Colorado Springs but overcame a taller Mountain Lion team to a 3-0 victory.
Regis (10-6, 4-2 RMAC) led UC-Colorado Springs (9-5, 4-2 RMAC) wire-to-wire in the first set and won the first set 25-18. The second set was tightly contested but with the score tied at 16, Regis went on a 4-0 run to jump to a 20-16 win and sideout the rest of the way for the 25-19 win.
Coming out of the intermission, UCCS jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Regis went on a 11-3 run to lead 11-7. UCCS made a late rally but Regis held of the Mountain Lions 25-19 to win 3-0.
The win moved the Rangers into a second place tie with UCCS and Metro State but at this moment own the tie-breaker between the three teams.
Regis hit a paltry .314 for the contest and the Rangers out-blocked the RMAC leaders in that category 8-7. The Rangers got four blocks each from sophomore Gina Morgan, freshman Jaclyn Williamson and junior Lauren Flanagan.
Freshman Caitie Breaux put down a match-high 12 kills, while senior Makayla Higgins added 11. Flanagan put down nine kills in just 12 attempts for a .750 attack percentage. Williamson assisted on 39 kills while grabbing seven digs. Junior Sage Martinson led the back row with eight digs, while freshman Rebecca Sponcil and Higgins also getting seven.
Regis will host New Mexico Highlands on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. and the next night host Western New Mexico, also at 7:00 p.m.
