Box Score DENVER, Colo.: Regis men's soccer won their seventh
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match today over Colorado Mesa
University, advancing their overall record to 8-0-1 (6-0-0 RMAC).
The Mavericks came out with an aggressive start, but the
Rangers earned control of the match by scoring three goals in eight
minutes of play.
Senior defender Taylor Diem
gained possession of the ball at the Ranger 18 yard box. He
sent the ball down the field to sophomore Adam
Tormoehlen who was at the right of the Maverick goal.
Tormoehlen bested a Maverick for a header that he sent to senior
forward Alex
Tarnoczi in front of Mesa's goal. Tarnoczi scored past
the goalkeeper in the bottom left of the net.
Less than eight minutes later, sophomore forward Martin
Maybin stole the ball from a Maverick 25 yards out from the
Mesa goal. Maybin took two touches and ripped the ball over
Mav defenders and an outstretched goalkeeper, scoring in the top
left of the goal and bringing Regis up 2-0.
Four seconds later Maybin gained possession once again. He
crossed from the right corner of the field to Tarnoczi, who slid to
send the ball through to the back of the net.
Mesa answered the Ranger offense with a goal of their own in the
37th minute and a second with 10 minutes left on the
clock. Regis defenders buckled down, not allowing Mesa
another goal throughout.
Freshman goalkeeper Christian
Nicolosi earned three saves on the day.
Regis will hit the road Friday, October 5th, heading
to Golden, Colo. to take on Colorado School of Mines at 7:30
PM.
